Dr. Roxanne Moore first stepped into the engineering classroom as a professor at Georgia Tech in 2012. She has enjoyed mentoring students and sharing her passion for design for over a decade. Beyond engineering, she has taught adults and children in the arts, including cake decorating and music.

Dr. Roxanne A. Moore
Dr. Roxanne A. Moore is a Principal Research Engineer at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, where her dissertation focused on optimization and numerical methods before they were called machine learning. She has spent her 11+ year research career focusing on broadening participation in STEM and creating novel learning experiences for students all over the world. More specifically, Dr. Moore focuses on empowering students with a STEM toolbox so they can design their own future. Dr. Moore is passionate about connecting the arts with the technical disciplines; as an undergraduate, she studied both mechanical engineering and percussion performance. During graduate school, she made incredible cakes for many weddings and events where she leveraged her inventiveness throughout the design and creation process. She was briefly famous in the cake world for her edible stiletto cake toppers and taught classes nationwide on how to create them. She has taught sophomore mechanical design at Georgia Tech for a decade and has designed numerous inventive curricula for K-12 students through her research and programming. She co-founded and led an invention competition—the K-12 InVenture Prize—for 10 years, bringing inventiveness to teachers and students all over the state of Georgia. She has served in leadership roles on over $17M in grants from sponsors including the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Economic Development Agency, the Lemelson Foundation, Amazon, and Google, and has co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications. She is also a mother to two incredibly inventive children.
